"Keep your toys clean with a little soap and warm water. If you want, break out the hydrogen peroxide for that super clean feeling. Don't submerge the part of a battery vibe that holds the batteries. Do not submerge electric vibes at all. Leather harnesses can be cleaned with a damp rag, and nylon webbing harnesses can go in the wash with the rest of your laundry. Cleaning: This material is a less-porous form of rubber that can be cleaned with mild soap and hot water. Condoms are still recommended to use with jellies as they are somewhat porous. Rubber: Firm, flexible, and often heavy, rubber dildos are porous and often need more care to clean than the average toy. Cleaning: Rubber dildos should always be used with condoms, but can be cleaned with mild soap and water. Cyberskin: This material is soft and supple, and looks and feels remarkably like skin. Cleaning: Rinse with hot water (avoid soap or harsh detergents); as cyberskin is a very porous material and cannot be disinfected, use with condoms for safety. Cleaning: Vinyl products are porous, but less so than jelly rubber toys and can be washed with mild soap and hot water. Soft vinyl toys will outlast jelly rubber, but not silicone. Health Concerns: Any material that is porous can harbor STDs, bacteria, yeast, and cleaning residue. Should STDs be present, condom use will protect your toy as well as it’s user. Yeast infections can be reintroduced with contaminated toys. Medicinal creams used to treat yeast can also cure an infected toy. Cleaners can leave behind harmful residue in a porous product which can be the cause of internal irritation. Commercial toy cleaners such as ‘Safe Suds’ safely and gently cleans even porous products. Many women have sensitivities to jelly products, latex and rubbers. Should irritation, rash or itching occur simply use a condom over your toy to avoid discomfort. If cleaning seems like too much of a pain and you still want to use your toy with more than one person, you could always just put a latex condom (or latex glove, in the case of some larger vibrators) over your toy and discard the glove or condom when you're done. Rubber dildos are porous and it isn't really practical to completely sterilize them, so you should either put condoms on them if you're going to use them with multiple people or switch to silicone dildos (which can be boiled to disinfect them, as mentioned above).
